The Hollardop trilobite is a remarkable specimen originating from Morocco, well-known for its distinctive morphological features and historical significance. These trilobites lived during the Ordovician period, approximately 485 to 444 million years ago, making them an important part of the fossil record.
Characterized by their well-defined cephalon (head) and their articulate body segments, Hollardop trilobites showcase a fascinating example of early marine life. Their fossils are often found in sedimentary rocks, particularly in regions rich in marine deposits, which contributes to their availability for collectors and researchers alike.
Morocco is regarded as one of the best locations for trilobite fossils, with its geological formations yielding numerous well-preserved specimens. The intricate details visible in Hollardop trilobites, such as their exoskeleton textures and eyes, allow for insightful study into the anatomy and biology of these ancient arthropods.
Collectors value Hollardop trilobites not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their educational significance. Displaying these fossils can enhance the understanding of prehistoric ecosystems, evolutionary biology, and the diversity of life forms that existed hundreds of millions of years ago.
In summary, the Hollardop trilobite from Morocco is a superb specimen within the field of paleontology, exemplifying the richness of the fossil record and providing a window into the distant past of Earth’s marine environments.
Note: Like most genuine low cost fossils this piece has some repair work where it was glued back together. A lot of pieces from this location have had this restoration as the matrix is very hard and getting the specimens all out in one piece is very difficult. In some ways I prefer these “repaired” pieces as I know they are real. Morocco has a lot of fake casts are just plain fake pieces.
