Purpurite - Namibia
Purpurite - Namibia
Location: Karibib Constituency, Erongo Region, Namibia
Size: 2.28 x 0.73 x 1.3 inches
I had never seen pieces this big until I imported 20 kilos of this material from Africa. This is a very nice piece that has several other minerals associated with it that can likely be identified with a little time likely the Ferrisicklerite-Sicklerite Series.
Purpurite is a rare, purple phosphate secondary mineral formed by oxidation of iron and or manganese with the simultaneous leaching of lithium. Dirty yellow to greenish-black crusts of Alluaudite are also scattered about.
