Scolecite is a tectosilicate mineral belonging to the Zeolite group and Natrolite Subgroup. Scolecite is a hydrated calcium silicate and usually occurs as acicular (needle-like) and fibrous aggregations. It is a secondary crystal that often forms in the cavities of basalt.
