Cornetite with Psuedomalachite - D.R. of Congo
Location: L'Etoile du Congo Mine (Star of the Congo Mine; Kalukuluku Mine), Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Size: 2.3 x 1.68 x 1.95 inches
Small but well defined crystals of Cornetite from the Type locality with green Pseudomalachite. Two mineral species that are not as common in mineral collections.
Cornetite is a rare secondary mineral in some hydrothermal copper deposits.
Pseudomalachite is not Malachite but looks like it. The two are not related as Malachite is a carbonate and Pseudomalachite is a phosphate mineral.
