Location: Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
Short wave Fluorescent
Franklinite is named after the locality of Franklin, New Jersey, where almost all of it is found. Franklinite is very rare outside of this location. Large crystals of previous mining eras are no longer found, and are considered classics that are highly sought-after by collectors. Franklinite is usually associated with brilliantly fluorescent Calcite and Willemite as you can see in this piece. The photographs of the Fluorescence is under Short wave. Green is Willemite and Red is Calcite. There is also minor Zincite in this specimen that can be seen as the orange/red areas in the specimen. Also some of the modified Franklinite crystals are fairly well formed in this piece.
